Special Olympics Nigeria Holds Family Health Forum In Abuja

Special Olympics Nigeria through her ExxonMobil sponsored Skillz For Life initiative conducted a Family Health Forum (FHF) in Abuja on 29th June 2018 at Abuja School For The Deaf Kuje. The forum was organized as part of SO Nigeria’s effort to increase Malaria and HIV awareness and also provide access to information, care and treatment for people with intellectual disability, their family members and other community members. The event which was conducted in partnership with the Kuje General Hospital Abuja, featured a variety of activities including a health talk, Malaria and HIV testing and counselling, Skillz For Life presentation, Unified soccer tournament among others. In attendance were over 500 people comprising athletes, partners, family members and other community members. Anti-malarial drugs was administered to those who tested positive to malaria by nurses from the General Hospital while mosquito nets was distributed to all present with special presentation of the nets made to schools with boarding facilities within the FCT.

The Skillz For Life curriculum is currently being implemented in five states across the North Central Region of Nigeria. The states are Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Plateau and the FCT – Abuja.
