Special Olympics Nigeria Concludes the Unified Art Project with a Competition and Mini-Exhibition

Special Olympics Nigeria recently concluded her first ever Unified Art Project tagged, “Art for All” on Friday, the 12th of October 2018 at Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home, Akoka Lagos. The 16 finalists (8 athletes and 8 unified partners) selected from the Unified Day of Art, underwent 6 weeks intensive training under the tutelage of Arts Instructors from House of Bezalel from the 30th of August to 5th of October 2018.

During the training, participants were taught various drawing techniques equipping them with tools needed to express ideas and be creative through art. Exercises were given at the end of each class, and a group project at the end of the 6 weeks training to evaluate how well athletes and partners in each team can collaborate using the principles learnt to make artwork that illustrates inclusion.

The Unified Art project concluded with a Unified Competition and Exhibition. The unified teams were given 2 hours 30 minutes to make live paintings that illustrates the ideology of inclusion during the Unified Art Competition. While the competition was on-going, there was a mini-exhibition of the best art work produced during the training by the participating athletes and partner teams.

At the end of the Unified Art Competition, team six Romanus Isaiah (athlete) and Adeoye Joseph (unified partner) were announced the winner of the competition, with team 5 – Fadase Abimbola and Bello Quamdeen and  team 1– Toma Unu and Adegbola Tobi  followed up in second and third positions respectively.

The event had in attendance Big Brother Nigeria 2018 housemate, Tobi Bakare and foremost graffiti artist and design consultant, Osa Seven who came to send some time with our athletes, inspiring them to make the most out of the art skill them acquired through the project.
