On Saturday 28th September 2019, Special Olympics Nigeria (SO Nigeria) celebrated Eunice Kennedy Shriver at the annual EKS fun day. This year’s theme was “Play unified: Live unified”. The event which took place at the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Murtala Mohammed Way, Yaba, Lagos, started with registration of all present – athletes and family members.

The participants were engaged through various fun activities lined up for the day.  The legacy of EKS was celebrated as the audience were enlightened on the impact of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who founded the Special Olympics movement with the aim of creating opportunities of inclusion for persons living with intellectual disabilities (ID).  The event generally helped participants understand her effort in changing the narratives for athletes in over 172 countries across the globe. Parents and family members were encouraged to allow their athletes to join Special Olympics.

The event featured performance by Special Olympics Nigeria athlete, Adedayo Adekoya who entertained the audience to good music by singing and playing the Conga drum, several competitions among participants like ball race, cone race, three-legged race, dance and bouncy castle for young athletes.

The event ended with the cutting of the event cake which was donated by a family member, Mrs. Reva Passman and photography session for all participant. The event was also supported by UAC foods Limited and Coca-Cola Nigeria.
