Making a Difference One Net at a Time: Malaria Intervention Programme at Government Special School Ido Ekiti, Ekiti State

SO, Nigeria organized a malaria intervention exercise to fix window nets and replace broken glass windows in the school dormitories and staff quarters of Government Special School Ido-Ekiti. This intervention was necessitated by feedback from our healthy athletes team on the poor state of health of athletes and infrastructure of the school in which they reside during the health athletes screening exercise conducted 17th June 2017.

The ExxonMobil Foundation Skillz for Life team was invited to conduct HIV/Malaria education, Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) and distribute lifesaving tools such as treated mosquito nets and Artemisinin-Based Combination Therapy (ACT) Malaria medication. Results from this exercise showed that 37% percent of the total athlete population tested positive for malaria infection.
