The second phase of Special Olympics Nigeria – Exxonmobil Skillz For Life coaches training was held in Enugu from the 16th – 20th October 2017 at The Therapeutic Day Care Centre Abakpa Nike, Enugu, Nigeria. A total of 56 coaches were trained. The coaches were drawn from Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo and Edo states respectively which are the areas where the second phase of the Skillz For Life initiative will be implemented.

The training was facilitated by SO Nigeria and Grassroot Soccer staff with a core focus on proper method of implementing the Skillz For Life curriculum among people with intellectual disability (PWID). The training also featured expert sessions on Malaria and HIV. Highlights of the training include practical sessions with master coaches on implementation of the Skillz For Life curriculum, practical demonstration with athletes, HIV and Malaria expert sessions, feedback by master coaches, football games and refreshment.

The sessions had during the training was very interactive with coaches showing keen interest in the different issues discussed as well making vital contribution during each session. At the end of the five day training session, participants were awarded certificate of participation. Implementation of the Skillz For Life curriculum across special schools in the south east region and in Edo state will commence on the 23rd October 2017 which is the week after training.
