Special Olympics Nigeria Partners With Skipper-EyeQ Super Specialist Hospitals to Restore Sight to PWIDS in Nigeria

The management of Skipper Eye Q Super Speciality Eye Hospitals located in Victoria Island Lagos made a commitment to restore hope to three SO Nigeria athletes by providing free cataract surgeries . In Keeping true to their words , the first beneficiary Mr Reuben Falodun, a 25 year old athlete was successfully operated in November 2017

In the words of his team of doctors, “The fight against inclusive health care for people with intellectual disabilities should be a thing of the past and Special Olympics Nigeria is working in that path, with time inclusive health care for PWIDs will be made possible. We are very happy to be involved in achieving this goal.
Reuben’s case is a complicated case of cataract called developmental cataract with signs of glaucoma and very high intraocular pressure. The surgery was a huge success thanks to the team of doctors who worked tirelessly”.

…Dr Zeenat Shah (Vitreo Retina Consultant Skipper Eye-Q) and Dr Ranojit Basu (Consultant Phaco and Pediatric Service Skipper Eye-Q).

Thanks to this gift of sight,  Reuben has regained some form of independence. In his words,“i could count the number of lights and saw the Dr’s hands waving while in the consulting room. I can now walk without assistance and my white cane and can see cars on the express way when they are moving slowly”

Thank you, Special Olympics and Skipper Eye Q, for restoring hope and light to my world.
