2017 MEID Initiative Coaches' Training Exercise (Lagos State)

The M.E.I.D(Malaria Eradication for persons with Intellectual Disabilities) Initiative sponsored by Aspire Coronation Trust Foundation commenced in Lagos State with a one-week coaches training exercise for 60 volunteers on the 16th-20th of October 2017 at the Sam Shonibare Youth Centre, Surulere, Lagos.

The exercise was held to train volunteers on the programme curriculum, thereby equipping them with the required knowledge and skill set to champion knowledge transfer as coaches during implementation at select special schools and centers. Volunteers were also taught right fit facilitation methods and how to interact with persons with intellectual disabilities (PWIDs). After the training, 54 volunteers who successfully passed the set criteria to become coaches were awarded certificates of merit.

Highlights of the event include; a welcome ceremony, energizer and kilo sessions, practical demonstrations, malaria drama, development of different Kilos for celebrating athletes and new songs for implementation, a teach back session and visit from the Aspire Coronation Trust Foundation team.
